I have an Acer laptop and it is really good. Apparently Lenovo are the most awarded laptops in the world.
I've always enjoyed my Thinkpad (I've had 3 of them, T20 series, T40, and now a T60). However, Thinkpads are now may be Lenovo. So the legendary IBM quality might be changing...
HP all the way.
I love HP. My laptop is very reliable.
Toshiba makes the best, most reliable computers.
