Download Hiren's Boot CD. Using it, you should be able to fix the problems that are keeping you from booting. If not, it has an option that allows you to backup important files on a CD using a DOS CD Burner.
you only option is to remove hte hard drive and put that in the casing of USB hard drive.. then you can connect that to any machine to get your files..
Had the same kind of problem of my pavilion zd1000. It can be the heating(but very unlikely).Best way is to get your laptop to get a fresh supply of air by holding it in the air while it is booting.
If u have another spare laptop(better if it HP made), u can switch the hard drives by opening the slots underneath.
When u put it back in your spare laptop, it should click and fit exactly. It fits just one way.
I know this because i had to replace my hard drive once and now my laptop is working fine.
It does not always work. You can use a spare PC if you can open the CPU.
