Recharging your laptop on the go?

I will take my laptop with us on a 9 hour trip in the car. The battery doesnt last long other than saving the battery by lowering the brightness or buying new batteries what can i do. The car has the normal lighter socket for power and the laptop is toshiba how can i get constant power?

Answers:
You need a car DC 12 Volt to AC 120V power inverter. It looks like this:

You could buy a specialized DC 12Volt to DC (whatever volt your laptop requires), but these things are expensive and will only work with your laptop.

A power inverter is great since you can plug in your DVD player if you wanted.

P.S. Keeping your laptop cool is tricky in a car. It's best to keep the area under the laptop flowing with air -- this means some kind of hard surface.
Buy a car a/c adapter, but to conserve dont listen to music or watch videos and dont use bluetooth should save some energy and it doesnt have to be on the whole 9hrs does it spend sometime looking at the scenery or w/e is outside the car window

now you see the failing with all laptops - they aint that portable after all!

you could get a plug in power supply like this
