If I buy a laptop with 1.5-1.8ghz and its dual core is it better than a laptop thats 2-2.6 and not dual core?

im about to buy a laptop for games.

Answers:
I recommend a dual core for two reasons - 1. They can be more efficient because you have two processors to share the work load, and 2. The increased support for them.

However, if the laptop is primarily for games, then the processors is not your concern. You need to look at the system memory and the video card. You don't say what kind of gaming you will use it for, for even for low-end games (those that you might download from Yahoo, MSN, or RealArcade), I recommend nothing less than 1GB, and 2GB if the computer will be running Vista.
I would also recommend that you avoid "integrated" graphics on you video memory. And I mean - avoid it like the plague. Integrated graphics means that your video memory shares your system memory, so no matter how much it says it can handle, all that will do is reduce the amount of system memory available for your computer. Make sure the laptop has a separate graphic card, 256MB being a good starting place.
There will be no noticeable difference if you are just looking at a single or a dual core CPU (ie, the older P4's vs a Pentium D). However, if you are talking about an older P4 vs the CoreDuo or Core2Duo then yes, there is a world of difference (but not because of the dual cores - but because of the architecture Intel used when building these CPU's).

The reason there would be minimal difference in a single vs dual is because currently there are only a handful of programs (SQL database, etc -- business SERVER applications) which were actually written for and utilize the dual core processor.
Currently no game utililzes it and therefore while a better architecture - not being fully utilized. Moving forward for future thinking, getting a dual core (core2duo) would be a great investment ... I've been an AMD fan for 10 years -- but at the moment I won't buy anything but the Core2Duo.

And yes, make sure if your buying a laptop for games that you get a decent video card.
