There's so much to consider... Each company has its own benefits. If you wnat a completely custom build laptop, Dell does great with that, but it my experience Dell computers haven't really performed too well. HP has some good performance computers and lots of choices as well. Lenovo has amazing laptops, I'm on one right now and I love it, even though it is a few years old. If you want a really friendly user experience, you might go for an iBook although OS X is not for some people, myself included.
Macbook Pro... I love mine
personally i'd go alienware. they are abit pricey but you most definatly will get what you pay for unlike many others.

The best laptop to get these days is a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092. It comes with Intel Centrino, which in my opinion, is the best processor.
