Help buying a labtop?

i really need help getting a new labtop. im majoring in aerospace engineering and will be using catia alot so i cant have windows vista. i also will be using it for gaming cause classes can sometimes get really boreding. i have looked at hp, sony, dell, alienware and i still cant make up my mind because i want a good video card, processor, and memory. but the hard thing is building 1 that will be underneath 3000 without tax and shipping. so can anyone help me out by giving me advice as to which you think would be a good labtop. thanks
