I work for PC World in the UK..If you are looking to buy a new laptop and upgrade it, it may be more cost effective to see if you can just buy a higher spec machine than upgrade the hard drive..It can be expensive to get and install the new hard drive than to just buy a machine with that bigger hard drive. Upgrading RAM is no problem, just research the exact upgrade you need from the laptop manufacturer's website so you can find out your maximum upgrade and relevant prices before you purchase. Alternatively, if the extra hard drive space on the laptop is just to serve as backup space, consider an external hard drive. That way you have all the files you need in a safe place in case something happens to your laptop and its cheaper than the upgrade.

You should be able to upgrade the RAM, there is usually an empty slot for an extra RAM card.
