i have a toshiba satellite pro 4600 which has windows xp home basic. i used to be able to play movies but now it says i need a decoder. why would this be? and if i have to download a new one are there any free ones out there?

decoder is the software/hardware that lets you play DVD, try to search for k-lite codec..its free and is very effective..you can also try downloading a player like VLC..search for it online..
you just have to update your drivers. go to toshiba website thats where they have the drivers
