Can anyone suggest any good laptop to buy?
Answers:
I recommend a laptop by HP or Toshiba. For $2000 you can get a top of the line laptop pretty much. Laptops have come way down in price, starting around $400 or so.
I recommend getting one from one of those two companies because they have been very reliable to me. In college I used macs all the time, and they crashed on me, and macs are very limited to the type of software you can run. If the groom plays games of any kind, a laptop with more RAM and a decent on-board video card (anything by nVidia or ATi).
I recommend getting one with decent wi-fi capabilities, if they ever travel a lot, that will come in most handy.
I love Toshibas screens, very very clear picture. HP has always made very reliable pcs, and I have never had a bad experience with them.
Stay away from compaq (even tho HP bought them out, don't buy compaq). Dell has some proprietary problems, but excellent customer service. Just remember, if you go with dell you have to go thru them to get any upgrades, or if you get a dell printer, you have to go thru dell to get the ink (you can't just go to walmart and buy some). Gateway has had some financial problems, and they are now an 'iffy' choice, the company isn't as dependable as it used to be.
Sony also makes good laptops, but you are paying for the name, and the quality isn't really any superior to any other.
If they like to watch movies, get one with a widescreen format.
I will post some links of good PCs on newegg.com so you can see some samples.
Get her a Gateway 15.4 Widescreen PC(MT6841)
Engineers are gonna have specific thoughts about what's 'good' ask him, or a couple buddies from his graduating class.
With any computer purchase, the best thing that you can do, is to first find out what you want it for, and what you want it to do. What you could do, is find out what kind of programs that they use in their computers. Operating systems and software, etc. Also find out what they want the computer to be capable of. Things like printing, internet, different types of connections (USB, Firewire). Do they want a sound card for music and video. Can you hook up another keyboard, monitor, and other hardware. Then find out the system requirements of the programs that they want to run, and look at a system that has that capability. Then you will need to learn what computer specs mean. CPU speed, hard drive size and speed, and RAM are the major one's, and it's quite easy to learn this stuff either on the net, or talk to a sales person in a store. Two things I would definately reccomend are, 1) For that amount of money, you can purchase a really, really good desk top PC. 2) Do not walk into a store and say, "I have $2000 to spend on a lap top, what can I get ? You'll get skrewed over, trust me. If you are thinking of a lap top, Definately look at the Mac Books made by Apple. Also, be careful of purchasing sale stock that contains outdated technology. Another thing to find out about is how easy certain conponents can be upgraded, or changed, and the costs involved.
The perfect laptop would be an Apple Macbook or Apple Macbook Pro. The Macbook starts at $999 at Macmall and the Macbook pro starts at $1549. Mac is perfect for anything. It runs five times faster then Windows Vista. Plus it is practicly virus proof. Mac has about every program Windows. Mac is the easiest, safest, and the best os ever. Its also the World's Most Advanced. You also never have to worry about files that work with Windows. Macs can open all microsoft files. They can open office files and if you know iTunes you know a mac. Apple makes the best computers because quality matters to them! Apple is the way of the future and thats why they are growing 3 times faster then Windows. At the rate they are going the could take over microsoft by 2012.
The link I have below has info about Mac and all the computers. I would just click around.
You must spend your money for the best brand.
As I know HP and Dell are the best in laptops for a long time and they are very reliable too. I trusted HP and I bought a HP laptop 2 years before, and still like the day I bought it. Didn't even have to service it at least once up to now.
I recommend you to buy a HP (with experience) or Dell laptop.
On www.hp.com you can even customize your laptop. And also you can check the price.
I would highly recommend a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092. I have one, and I love it. You can get one for $1,125 from Pricemad.
