Question on reinstalling my laptop?

i'm using windows xp and recently want to reinstall my laptop, but when i insert the recovery disk and restart computer, it's just loading the ramdisk image, and then just repeat the same process again, never complete.
i think it's because the optical lens, (i scratched it couple months ago)
but is there anyway that i can reinstall my computer?

since it's a laptop, you would probably have a pretty difficult time finding a replacement for the optical drive other than through the manufacturer. you could look on http://www.newegg.com or http://www.tigerdirect.com for an external optical drive, if your computer will let you boot from USB devices.
