It would be good to invest in a wireless router and wirless network card if yo have a laptop.
Its not a requirement but it pretty much defeats the point of a laptop if you cant use it anywhere in the house and also gives you the opprotunity to connect to networks if you are out and about in a hotspot
nope should be all set as long as it has xp installed.
No there is nothing else that you will need as long as your laptop has a browser like IE or Mozilla Firefox.
Get a technician from Virgin to connect you to the internet and change any relevant settings.

all you need is a spare USB port as virgin media will provide all the cables needed with the modem they send. You might also want to install a firewall for safety.

You would be better off going with an ISP that provides a free wireless router, otherwise your laptop will be chained to the modem when on-line. AOL do this, for example! And you don't have to install the annoying AOL software if you don't want to.
P.S. If you just bought the laptop it will have built-in wireless, so you only need the router.
No it should all be fine to run. But if there is any additional software your service provider should provide it eg: Virgin media or t-mobile.

A good firewall and and a comprehensive anti virus would be a good start , then you need some anti spy ware,dont take the chance that you will get any of the nasty viruses or Trojans that are out there. That would ruin the new toy glow of your new laptop. If money is an issue there are some pretty good anti spy programs out there. Spybot search & Destroy,
Super anti spy ware , A-squared , and such . All of which are
