Adding memory to Core Duo laptops: 2x512MB or 1x1GB?

Well, the title almost says it all really.
I want to add 1GB of memory to my new laptop (which will take it from 1GB to 2GB), and would like to know if it is 'better' to install 2 512MB RAM cards or 1 1GB card? The laptop has a Core Duo processor.

Thank you for taking the time to read, and thanks in advance if you reply.

Answers:
2x512MB would be best. That way the memory is spread over two slots, meaning faster access to the memory. This is also why it's more expensive than getting 1x1GB.
Ok im a little confused by your question. Do you want to have a total of 2gb?

Then you want 2x1gb

For 1gb its better to have
2x512

Laptops only have 2 memory slots. So if you already have 1gb using 2x512 then to upgrade it to 2gb you have to throw out that memory and buy 2x1gb. That can be a bit pricey. In any case its best to have two cards so your computer can read and write to them faster.

go there run the scanner and see what suits your comp

its better to have 2 x 1GB/2GB modules

more efficiency will come from more ram!
more the memory the merrier your lappy works!

hope that helps!

First of all, RAM is made up of memory strips. not cards, let's get that straight.

You have to get someone who is experienced or someone from the laptop company to pry open your laptop to check how many RAM slots are there. For instance, if there are 2 slots, you'll have to install 2 x 1GB RAM strips, if there are 4 slots, you can put in maybe 4 strips of 512 MB RAM, or maybe 4 strips of 1GB RAM.

One of word of caution: always check with the laptop manufacturer how much RAM the laptop can take, just in case.

I would recommend Kingston notebook/laptop RAM.
