Can a person use a universal power adapter to replace a laptop AC adapter ??

A friend of mine has a laptop.. and for reasons unknown to me. The AC Adapter for the laptop broke. I believe that they can use a universal adapter so long as they know the power requirements for the laptop and just need to get a second opinion on it. Thank you for your time and understanding on this.

You should be able to use a universal adaptor as long as the adaptor has the right jack and produces the right voltage (or is adjustable to the right voltage). Radio Shack used to sell universal adaptors -- not sure if they still do, but the universal adaptor I had worked for just about everything.
yes you can use though the manufacturere dosen't support to use a universal charger..

Every manufacturere says if there is some problem with the ac adaptor get another one from them.
I don't believe there is any drawback to using a universal adapter as long as it meets the manufacturers requirements.
Though I am almost sure that it will void the warranty if used and sent in for service.
If the universal adapter allows you to change the voltage or polarity you run the possibility of frying your laptop.
Yes.
IF All the following match
Current (ac/dc)
Voltage (5V,9V,12V,24V)
Amperage (100mA, 300mA,1A,3A,)
and the polarity of the plug and socket
