hi i just bought a new acer 3680-2682 laptop computer and its been great a lot better than my desktop (an old dell) but strange thing is when ever i just choose to close the lid so it automatically goes into sleep mode it screaches somewhat like what happens when you put two wireless devices next to each other its really strange. it seems to root from left of thetouchpad.

All I can think of is it might be your built in mic, (if you have one), like some sort of feedback. Make sure the mic is muted, and try again. This is just a guess, cause I have never heard of this happening before.
