How can I leave my laptop on for days (using standby and all) without the battery/charger burning out?

I'd like my laptop to be set up as a regular desktop computer and left on for long periods of time - but I don't know how without ruining the battery or the charger.

Answers:
Hibernate mode.
At the very least make sure your monitor turns off when the computer has been idle. Use any powersave settings that you can. I have left mine on for days, it's not a huge deal. This laptop/battery/charger has lasted me for almost 4 years and it's doing fine.
Just take the battery out, plug in the charger and your ready to go. The charger won't get wrecked and by not having the battery in there you won't risk burning it up.
I leave my laptop pluged in all the time. If you leave the battery in it, it will burn out in time. I take out my battery when plugged in.
Doing what you want shouldn't ruin either the battery or the power supply. I'm no sure why you think it would. An alternative would be to Hibernate it.
If your planning on leaving programs running while your not there, hibernate might not be the best, since that shuts of the HD and you won't be able to run anything while its in that mode. But if your not, hibernate will work.
