What causes my computer to run too slow. I don't have any viruses on it.?
Answers:
Udate your antivirus and scan your coputer in safe mode. After you remove virus, I recommend you use firefox browser. It is safer than IE. It can prevent viruses such as worm, trojan and etc. The newest official edition of firefox can be downloaded from http://www.mollzia.com
run a full scan disk on it, defragment it, and disk clean it up.
have you installed anything lately? or uninstalled anything?
what makes you sure you dont have a virus on your machine?
check if theres enough disk space.
How much ram you got and what is your OS?
try this: press the ctrl-alt-delete keys together at the same time to get the 'windows task manager' window to pop up. click on the processes tab and then on the CPU column (twice). this will sort your running processes by CPU% of use. see what the top processes are and determine if it is some application that you recently installed. if so, you may want to remove it. could also be that your virtual memory allocation is too low (if not set automatically) and/or that you need additional RAM memory. If all else fails try killing off (one by one) processes in the 'windows task manager' window that have 'owner' as the user name. if performance gets better after killing a particular process that process is the likely culprit. hope this helps.
Remove all unwanted programs and files from your computer , defragment it and check for spyware. From http://www.speedlnx.net/computer.html...
Slow speed may be due to many things.
1) Amount of RAM- if u have lot of programs running u must have lot of RAM too, coz if RAM is less it wil cause a lot of pagefile swaping from disk and it wil slow down ur system, for XP machine 512MB RAM is fine.
2) DMA enabled on ur hard disk- check if DMA is enabled in ur hardisk, if it is not then program access from hardisk wil be slow.
control panel> system> Hardware> devicemanager> IDE controller> Primary/Secondry IDE Ultra ATA check its advanced property for Ultra ATA mode.
also enable write chache in device manager> Disk drives> drive properties.
3) Programes running in background- there may be many programs running in background that u may not be aware of,
press ctrl+alt+del and observe processes in taskmanager, see which process is eating up ur processor time.
spyware and adware can also cause a slowdown of ur computer, u can use spybot to scan for them, it can also help u find out any unnessesary startup programes that run at boot time which may slow down ur computer.
hope that helps
Hmmmm. it's most likely do to ram, or your memory. You can get ram upgrades, so maybe you should look into that.
Try a program called CCleaner. It will clean out all useless junk like invalid registry files.
try uninstalling some old programs that you dont use any more. also you might have built up lots of programs in the System Tray (bottom right corner of the desktop). such as Quicktime, and having more than one antivirus program running.
You can try this computer speedup tool:

It works very well.
Why is my computer slow? I bet you have asked yourself that very question time and time again. And for the most part, you probably just can not figure it out. Ask the guy next to you, and they probably don’t have the foggiest idea either. I mean, you may get the “spyware, virus” answer, but this most likely is not the case.
The first place I check when my computer starts to run slower is the registry. Yes, the registry. Most people don’t even know what, or where the registry is, and especially don’t understand how this can slow a computer down. Let me explain.
Basically, the registry files contain information and settings for all of the software, hardware, operating system software, and anything else running on your computer. Mess any of these files up, and the computer does not know how to function. The computer goes to start up the software, looks for the registry files, and either can not find it or finds something that does not look like it is suppose to look like. It then just sits there: it does not know what to do next. This is where the “hanging” or “locking up” of your computer comes from. These files will need to be fixed.
To fix the registry files, find a good quality registry repair software called registry cleaner and run it on your computer.Top 5 registry cleaners can be found in here: http://www.computer-speed.info .It will tell you how many files are corrupted and need to be fixed. Just tell the software to fix it and it restores all of the registry files to their correct configuration. It is really that simple. It may take only about 5 minutes to perform this check. And then as a maintenance item for your computer, I would recommend performing this registry fix at least once a week. This will always ensure your registry files are good, and keep your computer running with no slow, freezing and errors. So if you find yourself asking why is my computer slow, I would check the registry files first.
Now you can check out
http://www.computer-speed.info ,there are reviews of top rated registry cleaners and a clear guide to tell you how to speed up your computer. And from there you also can get a free scan to fix any problems such as computers slow, computer freezing, computer errors and getting the blue death screen.
Hope that can help you.
Is your net slow? Then the reason is slow broadband connection.
Else, go for formatting and reinstalling all softwares after a files' backup.
How full is your hard drive? The fuller it gets the slower it will go.
