How much GHz should my laptop have?
Answers:
lets look at 2 processors from intel
both are dual core & clock speed identical, 2.66 ghz
Intel Pentium D 805
$ 50

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700
$ 1,060

now lets look at an even faster processor from intel
Intel Celeron D 346 ; 3.06GHz
$ 45

ok, all the above 3 processors are desktop processors
and mind you all are factory box packed, brand new
now, as for the reason i posted the info, you should have guessed by now
clock speed means very little today !
it is the ipc or instructions per clock cycle that ultimately matter, besides other issues & features
similarly, laptop or mobile processors
# now moving onto the second part of your question,
gaming > graphics play a more important role than the processor itself
schoolwork & videos > any damn processor should handle those
eg. the intel core 2 duo t5250 with a clock speed of 1.5 ghz could easily handle all of your needs & more at ease
2.4Ghz should be good
Look for 2.8GHz or above for gaming, videos etc.
the ghz really isnt the thing you should be worried about...like anywhere above 2 will do fine because now you have the dual core and 64 bit processors, you should keep your eye more on l1 and l2 cache and the bus speed, you also have to realize that laptop processors are going to have a lower ghz rating because most cant handle the heat generated by somethnig around 3ghz
laptops are portable devices, you need to determine how much of the time you will be using it while away from mains electricity
the faster the machine the less time the batteries last between charges
speed is not everything
settle for a mid range processor, one that is designed to "throttle back" its power requirements when not working so hard.
good luck with your final choice

If you're using it for gaming you really want to focus on what graphics card it has, try to stay away from on board graphics controllers as they just don't run any games worth playing.
If it's a dual core laptop anything above 2ghz will be ok for gaming but closer to 3ghz would be better (with dual core you can effectively double the clock speed or GHz to give a true reading).
If it's a single core laptop (not even sure if they still make them) you'll want 3ghz and over.
If gaming is your top priority stay away from laptops, they are very hard to upgrade and anything other than an AlienWare laptop really isn't Worth it.
I hope this helps

If you mean RAM size, then 1GB or 2GB depends on the kind/number of games you open and also your PC's mother board.
If you are talking about clock speed, then 2.5GHz would be okay.
You should get a good graphics card if you are gunna use your PC for gaming.
Also always backup your hard drive at least every two weeks since some school works are in it
Happy Gaming.
