Answers:
Switch your keyboard layout to UK. You've got a UK keyboard but your computer is configured to think it's a US keyboard.

It's in control panel, regional. Change keyboard layout to UK (and delete the US layout as well as you will never want to change layout between UK and US).
try to checkdisk your drive and reboot several times!
I have this exact same problem on our desktop. The keyboard was purchased here in the UK, but the PC was bought in Tenerife.
You mustn't have the UK keyboard settings at the moment. Try this: click on 'start' then select 'control panel'. Double click on 'Regional and Language...'. Select the 'Languages' tab, then click on 'Details'. Make sure you have 'English (United Kingdom) selected. If not, then select it as the default input language.
This might solve your problem.
Go into the Control Panel and change the Region Settings to UK and also the Keyboard settings. New Windows installations always ship with the US layout as default.

Yo can remove any other language setting (eg. English[US]) by deleting them but this will generate an error. Follow the instructions and when you restart the computer, only the English [UK] language settings will remain.
