I have a compaq pressario laptop with a dvd r/cd rw...The DVD rom is not reading some dvds that I burned from my friends laptop.I have checked those DVDS in some other dvd rom…dvds are fine….but my rom is not detecting those. I think my dvd rom is only detecting sony dvds. I am using windows xp,service pack 2.I have used nero 6 for burning those dvds.I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the dvd rom…but it didn’t work.can any one help me with a proper solution?

Sometimes when you use DVD for so long, it turns off, and you have to wait for a long time if you want your DVD rom to work. Or that you need DVD cleaner to clean the lens.
Other than that, you should check if you have the decoder for DVD installed in your laptop.
could be you need to clean the drivers lens. mines doing it now and i need to buy a dvd cleaner.
sometimes some DVDs depends on their qualities. Some DVDs have a high quality bit. some have 16bits,24bits ,32bits and so on. But try to use recommended DVDs for your CD ROM
Try burning the cd/dvd with lower speed, some computer burn cd with max speed and it cant be supported by some player, 16X will be the best ... try it and see.
