I got one of the first 17" MacBook Pros that hit the market and I've never been happier with a computer. As one user mentioned, you may need Apple to replace certain parts, such as anything Apple makes, which include the keyboard, casing, and power cable. You'll obviously need to go to a certified Apple repair center to not void your warranty, but this is the way it works with buying OEM machines. If you build a computer yourself (very few people can do this with a laptop) then you can service it yourself and buy your own parts, but you can't do this with HP, Dell, Alienware, or Apple for obvious reasons.

Now I hear a lot of people say they can spec a PC for less than a Mac, but they rarely do that. Instead they find a PC with similar processor, RAM amount, and hard drive and call it even. But the MBP offers greater value than just its core guts. It's thin, light, has a cleanly built-in camera, drop-sensor (to protect data if you drop it), backlit keyboard, auto-brightness aware screen, and it can run Windows or OS X or both.

Then you have the bundled software (iLife), and numerous other things that make life with it easier. For example, lets say you want a mirrored backup of your hard drive in case it goes bad. Lets then say that one day your HD does go bad (as they all do) - with a Mac, plug-in your external drive that was mirrored and boot up into OS X with "all" of your data and apps running with no down-time. Obviously you have to get your HD replaced or repaired, but in the meantime you can plug that external drive into any Mac and run it as if you were running your own machine. Can you do this with a Windows based PC? Nope, not in any way shape or form. You'd have to physically replace the drive before you could boot up from where you left off.

This recently saved me several hours of time. I'd highly recommend the MacBook Pro. Good luck.
you have to deal with apple exclusivly for some parts..

i normally can get a pc laptop that will out perform a mac for the cost vs processing power.

but pc don't have final cut / logic...

depends what your using it for at the end of the day.
I have one. wow! what a machine. All the power of the desktop apples but portable. What more can you ask for??
A lower price tag i think. Compared to PC laptops they are quite expensive but if you like macs and use it for design, print etc then I think it is well worth it.
Hope this help you decide whether to get one or not.

yes
I had a G4 Powerbook that was still under warranty (extended) The screen started to turn pinkish. I took it to the Apple dealer for warranty repair. They could not find a replacement since they don't make the G4 laptop screens anymore so they gave me a new MacBook Pro. I love Apple Computers!
