I need disk partition advice (Windows XP Pro, 100 GB laptop HDD)?

I have a new laptop with a 100GB hard drive, running XP Pro. I need to partition the drive so that I have a C: and a D: drive. I have tried in the computer mgmt program to right-click and 'add a partition' but it is continually grayed out.

Also - need partition advice, I run a lot of software demos on this machine and usually have a sizable 'data' directory for application data.

Should I partition with the following:
C: - windows installation
D: - data, my documents, etc.
E: - paging file
F: - applications?

Thoughts?!?!?

I need step by step instructions for how to create a partition. Should it be extended? logical?

I am only running one operating system - XP Pro.

Thanks!

Answers:
shut your computer off. turn it on, load into bios (usualy hit delete) and set ur boot priority so that it will read the cd drive before the hard drive. save and put in your windows xp cd. re start the machine. once setup inspects ur computers hardware configuration and u get thru all that good stuff, u will see a point where it asks u where to install windows at. you will see your C drive, and you will want to delete that. then it will ask weather or not to create a partition. create the partition and i would do 40/60. install windows on the 40 side. good luck (50/50 wouldnt be so bad either.) oh and make sure when u format the c drive, u use NTFS.
Try using some software to Partition the drive, I have forgotten one I have used before but you can search on Google for one your burn to CD and bootup.

I wouldn't make a seperate partition for paging or apps.
Just have C Drive for Windows (including paging and apps) and then D Drive for your Documents and Data - give the C drive at least 50GB of space.
The partition will depend if you have 32 bits or 64 bits , I'm pretty sure your laptop is using 32 bits, perhaps here is the link that will show you how to create a partition (logical) for both just in case:

For 32 bits:

For Windows XP 64 bits: which by the way is using FAT32bits

Please let me know if this helps../
Thanks
