The Dell Inspiron 1420 is destined to populate the homes of school-bound teens, sophisticated and unsophisticated computer users, and just about anybody who is looking for a terrific deal. The laptop's look has changed (for the better), and just because it's priced at $1,099 (direct) doesn't mean you'll get shafted with cheap processing parts. It's one of the few laptops, if not the only one, that gives you discrete graphics, a surplus of memory, different-color frames, and a host of other features that usually cost extra.
Get an Alienware. They're quite expensive, but wickedly cool!
You might want to consider an Apple. They can run both Windows and Macintosh, they are pretty cool, and not terribly expensive.
Apple is good, but they are ridiculously expensive if you plan on getting a laptop that you don't have to buy new upgrades 20 minutes after buying it. I would suggest going to the top brand sites and looking for what you want in a laptop. It can be brain wracking but worth the goal at the end.

Get a mac for get about PCs. People say you pay more but that not true. Spec for spec you get more buck for your bang. It come preloaded with software that you will and can use. Not like PCs where they give you demo programs. I love my mac. I never have problem. I had a PCs for years nothing but virus and hell. The death of the blue screen on my dell. To Sony desktop which give me sucky operating system. Also I lot of virus on there and no matter what I do they come back. Takes me 20 mins to get the computer to load to use. It has a built in cam. Also right now the apple is gonna lower prices down. Also free ipod with any laptop purchase. You can get one after rebate. You can use it or sell it to cover the cost of the price. Also if you go to school or know someone you does. You can qualify for mac student discount. Avg 10 percent off. Also it is intel duo core 2. So you know you got good processor. I also use parallels to run windows xp. It works fast. If you still need to use pc's programs. I find more and more apps for mac. No need to worry. Everything I can do on a pc I can do on a mac. Also everything easy to set up. Plus they got genius at there apple store if you live near one. They will help you with any apple issue for free. How that for a change. Free tech support. No waiting in line because they have online place to set up appointment. Your not just buying a laptop you get the whole experience. If you buy a pc there little or no tech support for free. Even when you call them they aren't genius. Also if you buy a pc you not buying a pc you buying a manufacture who takes parts from different manufacture to fit in there nice little case and give it a name brand. Also you can buy pc's mostly at big box store so no real one to one service. You not buying a computer you buy a pc's company. Why pick dell over hp or gateway when they all suck. No face to face people to back their products. You save some money it be little lesser but everything else is lesser and slower. They claim lower price around 600-800. Everything thing is big like hard drive and memory but when it comes to processor it deceiving. They tell you pentium duo core, intel duo core, intel centrino duo core. But it still not the best intel duo core 2. So is not the best. Apple laptop start around $1000.00 plus free ipod what a steal... Save yourself trouble and go to apple and check them out you be blown away. I was. It been the best purchase I've made. Never had virus, problem, load up time is fast. Easy to use. It is full proof. Buck for buck apple is not that expensive and even cheap when you really compare the spec. The 600 dollar pc's won't last. Now that all laptop comes with vista is ashame. It is not a good operating system yet. It got to many bugs and lot of compability issues..
