Scary, I have a Satellite series also but have never had any problems with it and absolutely love it. I have found the following link to be very informative but you will need to know the exact model number of your laptop. It's on the tag underneath the left front corner of your system. I think because the fan isn't working & the laptop has got over heated its thermostat has automatically shut down the laptop. Don't worry its just a preventive measure to avoid any further damage to the hardware. As you mentioned the fan is not working, get it checked immediately from the work shop. I hope its under warranty. Don't start it or else it may create more problems. When the fan would start working, everything will be fine.
