Dell Inspiron 9300 - The speed is 101MHz instead of 1.73 GHz?
i took a dell laptop (dell inspiron9300) , it's 1 yr old, it's speed is 1.73 GHz, but in system properties dialop box, it is showing just 101MHz below, and the system is damn slow, any clue?

EDIT: Okay, sorry this is so long, but I want to address everything as well as possible here.
The 1.73GHz being reported in the BIOS leaves no doubt that the 101MHz reading is due to the power-saving feature built in to your processor. Changing the power scheme to not conserve any power will only have an effect if something has gone wrong with either the processor's drivers or the processor itself, as the clock speed should automatically go right back up the instant it is needed, as is the case with my own computer. Rest assured that this inaccurate reporting in the OS is harmless - I'm certain it would report it accurately if you were running a task that utilized more than 70% of the CPU as you re-checked it.
If you used the "Dell PC Restore" deal (as opposed to an OS install disk) when you "reinstalled xp," the aforementioned extraneous software came along, as this restores it to its factory state. There is no doubt in my mind that if your computer has all of that installed, it's what's responsible for the lack of speed, and you'll need to figure a way to get rid of these programs.
The easiest way to do that is to go to the Add/Remove Programs panel and remove everything that isn't a driver or something you will be using often, especially anything that says "trial" in its name. If you're not sure, you could post a list of installed programs and I could post back/email you with which ones to keep, which ones to lose, and which ones don't matter much one way or the other.
The other way to do that involves manually downloading your laptop's drivers and obtaining a Windows XP disk (that contains the operating system and nothing else, ie NOT something from Dell), manually reinstalling XP, and losing your ability to use the "Dell PC Restore" option. But I digress.
If the bloat is not the culprit, it's quite possible that you have some sort of hardware issue - many of the computers rolling off the assembly line may be good, but the occasional dud will inevitably make it past quality control. Potential problems range from simple ventilation issues or the heatsink not being loose or improperly attached to early signs of component failure, and you might want to call Dell (especially if it's under warranty) or a reputable local repair shop for support. If you have any further questions/clarifications and I don't see them in time to answer, feel free to contact me through here.
Hope this helps!
All I can say
Dell = trash. ALWAYS ! PC's that are made in Malaysia and sold to college kids for sky rocket prices. Good Lord !
Maybe your laptop processor have a power saving features. Try reformatting your Windows. If cannot, contact the Dell service center.
first of all
1)dell is not trash, i use their 5 years old laptop and it still in good condition(i can say tip top). dont just because the computer broke, you say, owh it's dell.
2)malaysia has nothing to do with this, if you want to blame the manufacturer, they use AMERICAN technology in their factory. i'm malaysian, i know this.
3)as for the question, based on my experience, you need to reformat your hd. i had the same problem years ago on my desktop. from my 2.8ghz it came way down to 1.5 ghz.
Install the latest service pack and updates to the os and even update the system bios also because some of the MB will show like that only after updating the bios it iwll show you the correct hardware in your system.
its only battery setting
you change battery setting to max power
then it utilise full
I don't like Dell products, they suck. If the normal speed of the procesor was 1.73Ghz, then maybe you have too many processes and that's what is slowing down the computer. Press Ctrl+Atl+delete= windows task manager, go to the processes panel and see if you have to terminate some, it happened to me once. Or maybe you just need more memory RAM.
