By what particular mechanism does a laptop sense when you have closed the lid and therefore it should hibernate.

I suppose that by closing the lid, this activates a switch to save power.
a sensor or a button which the lid closes for you so it can rest and save power
Auto mechanism.You should remove hibernate.It speeds up your laptop and it has no purpose.
