Sounds like the computer is not renewing IP address. Instead of cycling power on the modem, try right clicking on the network icon and selecting repair. You can go into the network card properties and check the menu items for method of operation. May be one that allows system to manage power that is wrong. Three or four things in there that can have an effect.
u might be connected wirelessly fo to start network connection right click on ur wireless connection and disable
Even if the cable stays connected, if you turn off the laptop, the link to the router or hub is lost. When you turn it back on again, it may not reestablish the link without the hardware providing a reset. Check the link light on the router or hub. Does your laptop go into sleep mode or does it shutdown? If it goes into sleep mode, it should reestablish the connection when you wake it up. However, some PCMCIA ethernet hardware may not reset when you wake the machine from sleep and may need a separate action to kick start the link back up. If you have a PCMCIA card, try ejecting the card and then reinserting it, which forces a hardware reset of the ethernet connection.
