Lines running through a laptop screen?

Sometimes you can move the screen up and down, and find a position where the lines disappear, and everything works great again. (until the next time).
If you still have no success, consider this.
- if your computer is more than 5 years old, buy NEW.
You see, if you bought new for $1000 and it lasts 5 years, you are paying $200 per year. But fixing the old one at about $200 means that you might get just one more year with that OLD ONE.
- if your computer is fairly new, then paying the hefty repair bill might pay off. Let's take that THREE year old computer. It's got 2 more years left. So $200 for 2 years is just $100 per year. Then in 2 years when you BUY NEW, that Windows Vista will have the BUGS worked out, and you will totally love a new one by then.

Take it to a computer repair man to get the screen replaced. Prices vary, and of course it would have been helpful if you indicated what kind of laptop you had.
The screen is dying. Prices vary a lot from one model of laptop to another so do a product search on Google to find out how much a new screen is for your particular model.
You might find a used one on eBay but buying used is always a risk.
