What is the difference between pentium 4 3.0ghz 800 cpu and a Intel Core 2 Duo T7300?

u wont notice much speed difference at all unless u multitask with heavy processor intensive tasks .. if u wanted to convert 2 avi movies at once to another format the core2duo would shine ... just converting one on a machine with a p4 and one on a machine with a core2duo u wouldnt notice any speed difference at all .. maybe the p4 would even beat the core2 by a minuet or two ..
you WILL notice a definite increase in speed on the t7300 because it does more per a clock cycle. You will really notice a difference when video encoding.
it depends on what youre using it for. if youre playing games over 1 yr old you wont notice any difference and may actually feel the t7300 is slower.
however the t7300 uses 30% less power which translates to longer battery life. also for video encoding, video editing and other cpu intensive applications, youll see a speed increase in the t7300. as said before it does more per clock cycle.
if the application was not built to uitlize 2 cores (t7300) the p4 may be faster or the same speed. most programs do ustilize 2 cores now so youll notice a slight gain in speed and significant improvements to battery life and power usage.
Also P4s are not meant for laptops (I've seen them in laptops a few times though). It's a bad idea to put a P4 in a laptop. If you do you'll get terrible battery life, and it will get quite hot. Pentium 4s are old technology now.
And yes, you'll notice a speed difference between a T7300 and a P4 800. Just because it's 2GHZ doesn't mean it's slower. It does more work pet GHZ than Pentium 4s, especially if you're using both cores.
