How can a two way radio system cause my lap top to crash.?

Computers are electrical equipment and susceptible to interference. Try using the radio next to an LCD TV. or a hi fi to see if you pick up interference.
Broad band uses radio signal doesn't it? Never heard of it before though.

This is called compliance! The computer is compliant with Part 15 of the FCC rules, and one of them states:
a) the device must accept any harmful interference, including one that may cause undesired operation.
b) the device must not cause interference.
This is how FCC said.
The workaround is: there are laptops that are shielded against harmful interference. Or, if you have expertize with radios, reduce their power (by altering the final amplification block).

Because wireless uses these same radio signals as does a hand held radio.

You happen to have a radio that works near either the computer network card's 2.4 GHz operating frequency range (which will knock out your network connection), or the operating frequency of your CPU clock, which is probably 800 MHz (which will certainly cause you to crash). Many two-way radios operate at 900 MHz, so you will be stepping all over your computer when you key up the radio.
If you have to use hand-held around your laptop, invest in one that works on a different non-intrusive frequency.
Microwave ovens can also cause interference, some hair dryers.
It sohuldne't ever becasue you laptop does not use radio signels other then the internet. So at owrst it will screw up your internet.
