What kind of laptop should I get?

I am in need of a new laptop. It will be for home use. I'm a typical user and will be writing reports and creating PowerPoint documents (and excel), doing things online like downloading music and/or movies, e-mail, net surfing, chatting and blogging, you know, all the run of the mill things. What do you recommend I get? What do you think I definitely should NOT get? Your opinions will be most appreciated.
