first thing you need to do is go to a office supply store like stapple or office max and get a laptop cooler it fits under the laptop and plugs into the wall and little fans run to keep it cool. this will make your laptop last much longer. also try to not open & close screen any more than you have to as the area where they close is where they first develop problems.
clean screen very carefully.
be sure you have good virus portection on it.
go to p.c world.com and download for free
AVG virus
AVG anti-virus spyware
Ad-ware 2007
and if its not already service pack 2 then upgrade it also on same site and be sure your automatic updates is turn on.
Battery is the first and foremost issue with laptops ..take of it like in this article.

sounds like a cool notebook. whats the hard disk capacity?(size)
overheating should not be a concern (newer chips have in-built programs that automatically take care of that), just make sure you dun put it on a surface that will block good airflow ventilation (like extremely fluffy mattresses, e.g.)
dun install too much stuff (it'll slow it down)
do regular virus scans
dun leave it on overnight
should be alright like that ...
a couple of simple things you can do to prolong the life of your new notebook: When you close it try to put a felt piece of material or some thin pad between the screen and the keyboard. If you look at notebooks people have had for a while (and they don't take this precaution) you will see the keyboard imprint on the screen. Try allow the notebook to breath; all the components are in such a tight place that they REALLY need to be able to expel the heat. There are vents to do that but on some systems the vents are on the bottom of the notebook. You can easily find your "vents" by just feeling for hot air around your notebook. When you first charge the battery - charge it completely up and then drain it completely dead; cycle it 2 times (repeat the drain and charge twice). This will allow all the cells in the battery to be used and brought into use. When you carry it around; try to find a carrying case (backpack) that has a "notebook" pocket. These pockets typically have extra padding for the bumps that can happen in transporting a notebook. Hope this helps - good luck.
