Laptop for uni?

I'm about to buy a laptop for uni (in Australia). My budget is no more then $1500. I need something that is portable, fast and reliable.
Just wondering if someone could tell me what brand and model they recommend. Or exactly what things i should look for in a laptop
:)

A MacBook would be a good bet then. Quick, easy, reliable and secure.
HP DV6500t, Mainline laptop from the top seller in the world would be a good choice. It offers value and options. At that price you should be able to get a top Intel core 2 Duo CPU, 2GBs of RAM, a NV8400GT GC, and a 120GB HD, plus a built in web cam.
My second choice would be the Dell 1520 also well priced but a bit bulkier.
