I have not been able to completely boot up my laptop successfully, is it dead, or is there something I can do?

Whenever I boot it up, it starts loading Windows XP, a blue screen flashes briefly and then the computer restarts itself. If I start it in safemode, a bunch of lines of code appear on the screen and I have to control, alt, delete to restart it. I am not sure what it is doing. It worked fine last week and all of the sudden it started doing this. HELP!!!!

When you start in safe mode, it is normal for the computer to take much longer to boot. Give it up to 15 minutes to get to a login screen or your desktop. If you do get it running in safe mode, try uninstalling any software which you recently added or any software which automatically starts when you start Windows.

However, given that it crashes before Windows finishes loading, I'd suspect that you either have a problem with your hard drive or else essential Windows system files have become corrupted. I would recommend reinstalling Windows and you can call your laptop's tech support for instructions on doing that.
take it to the dealer
let me guess, its a blue screen with white letters? am i right? if it is, reinstall the operating system
You should look into getting a laptop tuneup!
You are describing a possible virus you may have picked up. If you can get into the desktop under safe mode, then run your antivirus to check for any problems.

Otherwise you may have taken some damage to your OS from a possible power spike.

The worst case is that you may have to reload your OS.

Good luck
When it booting press F8 then select Safe Mode and press enter then go to Start ----- All programs ------ Accessories -------- System tools --------- Restoration ------ then select any last time when your system where good and select OK ..
When you start it in safe mode, it will open just the basic windows functions. Wait for safe mode to completely start up.

(if safemode did not start after a very long time skip ahead)

Once in safe mode, you need to deactivate any strange programs that attempt to run when you start up windows. Do this by going into msconfig by pressing start > run > 'type msconfig'

Deactive any unknow microsoft services, and run your computer in diagnostics mode.

If you have a registry cleaner or any program like that, be sure to run it half the time, windows can't start because of an error in the registry.

Run any antivirus/spyware software you have while in safemode.

Run a windows scandisk, you can do this by right clicking your local disk ( go to my computer and right click c:) go to properties and system tools. Then go to scandisk, tick both boxs.

Now restart your computer, a blue screen should appear and start to scan your hard drive for errors.

If safe mode didn't start, you will need to repair your operating system.

The easiest way to do this is to use system restore to rollback any changes.

If you cannot do this, put in your windows xp setup disk, enter the setup. Skip to the second screen, and press 'R' to repair your windows xp installation.

Reboot your PC. If this did not work, you can either rebuild your boot.ini, Clear CMOS, or Clean install your OS.

Also you can try to upgrade any firmware, however you may find this difficult without some sort of OS, you may have to use DOS as a tempory OS.
Starting in Safemode will boot only the minimum applications and driver, did you remove anything that would be connected to a USB port ( wireless mouse, keyboard), external hard drive?
Do you have the original Operating system disk or back-up?

You can try to take it to the dealer, most likely they will replace the hard drive and reinstall the OS, that is if you can provide the back-up disks.

Good luck.
