At this point, intel's higher-end processors are faster than AMD's fastest processors. But you'd have to compare model to model.
Intel currently has the fastest processor on the market. However that also means they have the most expensive one as well. The AMD processors will save you a few buck and more than likely you won't really notice the difference unless you are a hard core gamer or video editor. Good luck.
at the moment INTEL offer a higher clock rate and better cache on its high end duo / 'quad' core range. Compared with AMD anyway, depends on your price range...
