Standby vs. Turning off [performance]?

Does putting the computer in standby instead of turning it off affect performance in the long run? Why? [Not a question about energy usage]

Answers:
When the computer starts it has to load the OS, and several drivers to memory, then initiaze and test hard disk, memory, and many other devices. In stand by mode most of these operations are skipped. So by not doing repeated initialization tests the life expectancy is expected to grow, I believe.
actually according to cpu magazine turning you computer on is one of the most harsh things you can do to your computer... so turning off is not to good... they recomended to hibernate or stand by being the best option. but i still turn my off cause it has to many blue lights and i cant go to sleep with it on...
when you turn it off it is slightly more power efficient but its not worth the trouble. I've kept my computer in standby for literally months, only restarting for software updates and programs and its still working fine. My computer is coming up on 4 fours old. So basically its been on for 4 years. lol.

I learned to sleep with the lights. lol.
