Nothing displaying on the LCD monitow when I turn on my laptop ? How come?

Last Sunday, the LCD monitor was flashing black and colour uncontrolledly .Then last Monday, I turned on my laptop again. It said it couldn't automatically enter Windows. I was told to choose " Normal" or " Safety Mode". I chose the latter one and the LCD monitor went dark and no response for several hours. I visited "technician A" and he claimed there was a problem with the motherboard .At last ,he took out the hard disk from the laptop. Then I visited "technician B".This time, he installed the hard disk into the laptop again and there was something displaying on the screen. We chose " normal mode" and enter window successfully. Technician B said technician A is wrong and there's nothing bad regarding the motherboard. Today, I turned the laptop on myself and it can enter Windows automatically. Isn't it weird? How did these things happen? Do I need to buy a new laptop and dump the old one ? I bought this laptop in August 2004 and has used it for 3 years. Thanks for your help:)

It probably is the video curcuit board on the laptop. there is a circuit board that can go bad and if it is a toshiba it is a know problem. and at the current price of laptops.. it would be better to just buy another on... but first buy a transfer case and remove the old disk drive.. and use it as a backup external drive. you can find them on ebay or from several suppliers.. I got mine fron Cheapguys.com.. and was able to recover all the info..
If it's working now, why dump it? Just make sure you back up your critical data regularly on an external hard disk.

Technician B has "the touch", Technician A hasn't.
Sounds like it on it last leg.
