Eight keys on my Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop stopped working - any idea why?

The keys are in diagonal rows running up from n and m. Everything else seems to be working okay.

You have learned the hard way that Dell Laptops are JUNK. Next time buy a Toshiba.

Better made, quick and knowledgeable tech support, available at local retail stores; where you get a friendly no-hassle return policy, Toshiba is the way to go.

But for your immediate problem, you might be able to unsnap the keyboard and find the connector lose. It might not appear lose, but by removing it and plugging it back in snugly might do the trick.

Hey, it's a darn good thing that your Dell didn't have the EXPLODING batteries.

Good luck and Happy Computing!
because its dell.

lol
The first thing to try when a Dell has keyboard problems is tightening the screws on the bottom of the laptop. Seriously.

The simplest answer is that you turned on the numlock.

I have had the same problem with a couple of different dell laptops and it was a bad cable on one and a bad mother board on the other. (different work laptops)

You can boot from the dell diagnostic CD and have it run the tests and that will tell you what the problem is.

You can also lift the keyboard and reset the connector by pulling it all the way out and putting it back in again
