Computer not shutting down?
When I click shut down, it does everything it is suppose to do until I get to the Windows XP shut down page where it says "Windows is Shutting Down" but it never actually shuts down. Why is this?

I am facing the same problem for some days now! I just don't know why, but it gets stuck at the 'Windows is Shutting Down' message about once every 6-7 times. In your case, if it's happening ALWAYS then there might be some problem with your system files. If you have the Windows CD, then it will be better if you repair your installation. You can also create back up of all your important data and then reinstall Windows.
i dunno try the reset underneath
You may have some Windows file missing. Reinstall operating System. Or repair Windows
When it finally halts, you can turn it off. At least how that it was for me with a number of Windows installations.
Corrupt files are a possiblity, but it may also be a configuration issue that a reinstall (don't forget to backup) could very well fix because I'm going to guess that it's a registry hack if it can be fixed without reinstalling. Search the web for "Normal XP shutdown" behaviors.
I know on Ubunutu Linux and other flavors that:
sudo shutdown -h now
will halt after shutdown.
sudo shutdown -P now
will power down instead of halt.
sudo shutdown -H now
will now halt.
It would be very reasonable to assume Windows has similar flags for its shutdown command andt hat those flags would be set in the registry.
Reset would be a very bad idea as that will reboot your machine and start the cycle again. Much laughter has been had at the expense of users who cannot turn their computers on or off.
