sounds like you either have a hard drive issue or a power supply issue. I can't tell from your description. If you plug the system in and you can actually tell there is power getting to the system then I would say your hard drive is dead. And if your trying to reload the OS and the computer does not recognize there is a hard drive installed then obviously your hard drive is toast and needs to be replaced.
However, if you can not see/hear the system starting (check for power light as well) then you have a power supply issue which in most cases with a laptop requires a new motherboard. Most laptop manufactures now put all the peripherals onto the motherboard - ie: video, audio, etc...
either way I hope your system is still under warranty and you can contact Sony support for assistance- http://www.sony.com/index.php
