I want to increase performance on my laptop. Will adding more RAM really work?

I have two slots for memory cards in my Lenovo laptop. I currently use 2 x 512MB for a total of 1G. Will replacing the 512 MB's with 2 x 1G (2G total) really be noticable? Can I go with a 1G card and one 512MB card. I read somewhere they don't recommend using two different size memory cards. Thanks.

Answers:
first of all adding ram to a computer always makes a difference
and you should check to make sure your laptop can handle 2gb's some can and some cant and yes you can mix and match
just make sure they are both operating at the same speed (in Mhz)

another idea to increase performance is to get a good defragmenting program preferably one that is automatic i suggest Diskeeper it costs money but you can usually find serials or crack programs for it online
1 Gb of ram in a laptop is good enough to run anything but audio-video editing under vista.

So if you are doing anything else (or use WinXP) you are covered, there's very little you can do to speed up a laptop once it's bought.
First of all you must know how big the Ram will your computer can take..Use 2 similar Ram
