What does the wireless LAN key do on a laptop?
Answers:
I have the 2055 model and it is used for switching your wireless network on and off this switch will give you a hole lot less trouble if you leave it on all the time. I had a similar type of problem and had to keep re-starting all the time, leaving it on all the time won't damage anything it just means that you will be automatically connected to the net when you switch the laptop on unless you are out of range of your router, and this wont do any damage either, it will just tell you you are not connected or it can't connect.
It turns on or turns off the wireless internet adapter.
The switch turns off the wireless Internet card. This can be useful in areas where wireless Internet use is not acceptable, such as on airplanes.
If I switch my wireless LAN key off I have to reconnect the yellow Ethernet cable as I cannot access the Internet without it. The key must let the signal get through to the right part on your computer to enable wireless connections.
It turns on your wifi connection. After turning on you should have an icon in bottom right of screen showing a pc with 2 curved lines to its right.
Right click on this and open network connections.
click on view available networks, and it will show you if there are any networks available. Many are free access sites, so when you are out and about you can try and connect.
Also, i have one desktop pc with wifi installed and two laptops. I use the wifi to connect the 3 together for file and printer sharing and internet access.
