My computer shuts down during a game. Do you know how to rectify this?

This problem has only occurred in the last few days. The games I play are the same I have played for months and I have had no problems before. The only thing I can think of is that my computer (a laptop) gets hot very quickly. I wondered if the fan is not working properly. My computer is fine with other tasks but just has a problem when I play games on it.

yes it probably heat ... and the fins on the heatsink may be blocked internally with dust ... blowing it out with compressed air may help ...
Your battery is probably going bad. Even though you may be running it from your ac adapter the battery is being charged and could be heating up, shorting out power and rebooting. Locate the battery area and see if that is the source for the heat... If it is, (I think you can do this) remove the battery and run it just from the ac adapter and see if the problem goes away.
