Hiya KevinM,
although you may not have changed your settings, when the power gets cut to a computer while Windows is running it can cause a number of problems.
OK, so the monitor is OK and Windows stops displaying to the monitor once booted. If the hard drive LED is still flashing after the monitor goes blank then your Windows is probably loading but the display driver files are either corrupted or not loading.
The quickest and easiest way to get everything back is to do a system restore in safe mode. To get to safe mode you need to press the "F8" key just after the BIOS is done and before the Windows logo comes up. This may take a few tries on some systems but be persistent. You will know you have it right when you get the boot options menu. Ignore the "boot to last know good configuration" and select safe mode. If you get a display in safe mode, you need to open the System Restore utility in System Tools and select "restore my computer...". Select a date just before the problem started and when it reboots you should be OK. If the problem is Driver specific and severe, then you still may have a problem because a file may be gone. If this is the case then you will have to FULLY uninstall the display adapter device driver in display properties from the DRIVER applet.
Get into safe mode again then right click on MY COMPUTER and select MANAGE from the drop down menu. Once in Computer Management, open the device manager and select your display adapter, double click to open the properties page and click on the DRIVER tab along the top. Once it is opened, click the uninstall button near the bottom and agree to all the prompts to remove the driver. After a reboot, Windows should start up with the generic VGA driver and you will have to reinstall the drivers to get back to go. Make sure you have the CD or downloaded files for you display adapter so you can reinstall.
GOOD LUCK!!
The problem's wid ur XP. U'll have to reinstall xp for it to run properly. Although u can repair/upgrade, but i would say you dont. Just get a new installation done. I 2 had this problem once.
