Black screen with cursor?

i boot my pc and all i get is a black screen and a cursor that I can move. I know programs are working, but i can not see them.

I tried safe mode and everything is fine (well except for the fact that it is safe mode)

I tried system restore and it worked for five minutes untill suddenly the screen goes black and i can only see and move the cursor

please help

It sounds to me like it is related to your video card. Did you do anything before this started happening?

Also... what operating system are you using? If it is XP you can first start here...
