Can 2 seperate monitors be connected to 1 computer?

I have regular computer and want to connect a 2nd monitor to it, sort of like people do when they are day traders who trade stocks from home. Is this possible. How do I do it?

Answers:
If your computer is fairly new, you may already have dual-monitor capability. Many video cards come with that built-in. If you don't, you can buy a replacement card with dual monitor capability. Or you could add a second video card to your computer.

The only problem arises if your video is built into the motherboard. Such systems can have dual outputs. But if yours doesn't, you need to disable it before adding a video card. Your computer's instructions should tell you how to do that.

Making this work is simple. Whether you have a dual-monitor card or multiple monitors, Windows will recognize the situation. One card is designated as primary, and that is what handles the bootup.

Any setup is accomplished through Windows' display settings. These are accessed by right-clicking the desktop and clicking Properties
.
a regular computer you say? ok since my friends and i know a lot about computers and have good systems, its regular to me. So im guessing since your system is regular, it must be a gaming rig. so chances are you could support dual monitors. you just need to hook up a cable to your sapphire 2500 or your 8800GTX thats SLI
yes, this is very possible, but you must have a video card capable of doing it.

look for any video card wich has dual-DVI output or something like that, this way you can assure you can extend your desktop to a second monitor.
Yeah if your video card can do it.
You could just get a video splitter connector - available at tigerdirect.com, etc.
Yes it is, but your graphics card needs to be able to handle it. I'm not sure if high end integrated graphics are the same, but regular motherboards will have a single link up that is most likely already wired to your monitor. Older computers probably have a VGA output. If you have a video card with more connections, it will be where the front of the card sticks out of your tower. Simply get the wires and plug it into your monitor. As far as controlling the two. I know nVidia has a control panel installed with it's software that allows you to tinker with each monitor.
or install 2 video cards
you need a splitter - and you can have more then 2 monitors
