Where can i take a laptop with a torn LCD screen to be fixed?

This is a bit of shameless promotion, I'm afraid, but...
Take it to your local branch of Staples, ask to speak the the "Easy Tech" associate... they will arrange to send it to a repair hub, who can replace the screen for a lot less than $800.
You can also call 1-800-4EZ-TECS for information
In all fairness, I'm sure many of the other stores can do the same, I just happen to work for Staples... :-)
What brand? If the cost of repair is a little less than buying a new one. I suggest not to get it repaired just get a new one.

This company will provide you with the new LCD screen, but they will not replace it for you. This should give you a good estimate of how much you will need to spend. Even if you are heavily invested in the laptop, you can probably replace the whole thing for just a little more. You can always buy something with a smaller hard and optical drives and swap them into your new laptop. That is much easier than changing the LCD.
