If you have a DVI connection, I would select a widescreen 20" LCD monitor. Anything larger would require a very high resolution, and that would require using more power and might even slow the computer down because the increased display resulotion will require more RAM and CPU resources to keep up. Although the following monitors are pricey, they are really designed for mid- to hard-core gamers, video pros, and graphic designers. Whether you have a PC or Mac, these displays use DVI connections and are compatible with Windows, MacOS X, and Linux out of the box, as long as your computer graphics card has DVI. A good thing to remember is that computer gaming really requires medium-end to high-end 3D video cards with their own memory (256MB or higher ATI Radeon or nVidia GeForce graphics cards are best for gaming).

These are two monitors I have personal experience using at both work and at home. The Apple is somewhat more expensive, but has an extremely fast resolution refresh (even when equipped with a Dell PC using an ATI Radeon video card)! The Dell is less expensive, and doesn't have as many resolution options, but has the ability to connect desktop speakers underneath the display. Both the Dell and Apple LCDs have USB ports, and come with the USB cable needed to let them act as powered USB 2.0 hubs, so you can plug any USB 1 and 2.0 devices into either of these monitors instead of having to reach around the back of the PC. It also adds additional USB ports to your PC's setup, which is not bad. The Apple adds four USB ports, the Dell adds two.

It probably is a non-issue especially on a 17" LCD. For the price, it has good contrast, brightness and color features. Combine that with a graphics card driver settings and you can get the LCD to display image to your liking.
