Should 15-pin blue connectors for computer monitors be retired?
Surely they need a better-looking and younger relative to take over?
(OK, OK, 3.5 audio mini plugs are also ancient, but you know what I mean!)

I suppose you're talking about the VGA connector. They should be retired, and in-fact they almost are. Every new graphics card that is coming out has DVI connectors now, if you want VGA there's a DVI to VGA adapter. VGA is outdated because it has to transform the signal while sending it along the wire, then it transforms again along the wire, then it finally converts to a digital signal into the monitor. The DVI cable just has a digital signal, which makes it faster and more efficient. So yes, VGA should be retired, and it will be in a few years!
Ummm. computers still use those, and the 3.5mm audio jacks.
I know what you mean, how many times do you get one end of it stuck in the back of the computer and the other end is out and the barsteward won't unscrew! Aaagggghhhh!
Seen the size of a DVI connector then?
My laptop (very new) still has a parallel port and serial port.
You can't sweep defined "standards" under the carpet so easily.
Additional: I'm looking at a graphics card with VGA and DVI connectors and I assure you DVI is bigger!
the new apple ibook g5 laptops out put monitor plugs are better, but the onlything they do to go into the ibooks monior plug is a adptor to change it over to a vga (15pin) plug!

Ethernet - been around in a similar form since the 1980s

I think the VGA is the least of our worries. Legacy components die hard.
They are a pain, but they are probably carry more data per second than any other connection. Isn't it a pity though that we can't use the same connection an xbox uses. I think its RCA or SCART. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.)
VGA Connectors - They have been around for quite sometime and it will take sometime before it is completely wiped off...The newer cables like DVI, HDMI are so small and compact. The Video bandwidth is there and so thats the cause its big n bulky...
