Why isn't my Video Card detected?

I just got a 2001 Sony Vaio PCV RX540 from a friend. For some reason, the VGA Port on the motherboard didnt work (there was no image or even a grren powerlight on my monitor). The computer had a ATI Rage Theatre TV tuner/ graphics card. Since it only has a DVi connection and my monitor is VGA, i got a Dynex DVI to VGA adapter. I plugged it in to the card and the card works but it does not detect it, it just detects the Adapter as: Video Controler VGA Compatible. How can I make Windows XP detect my Video card? Do I need to get a driver for the dvi to vga adapter first? If so Where can I get one? If not then can somebody tell me how I can solve my problem? Thanks!

Answers:
it's got nothing to do with the adaptor.. what you need is to download the ATI rage theatre drivers from the ati website... right now windows is detecting it as a generic graphics adaptor.
