Hiya Stan P,
I am not 100% sure what you mean by "the monitor shows no sign". I think you mean that the monitor is not displaying anything and the computer powers up and seems to be working but with no picture. Then when you hit the power switch on the front of the computer, it stays on but still no display on the monitor.
If I have that correct then here is what is going on.
The graphics card is not putting out an image, there graphics card is putting out an image that is not making it to the monitor or the monitor is malfunctioning.
Here is how to fix these problems:
1) Remove the cable that attaches the monitor to your computer and check the plug for bent or broken pins. Straighten any bent pins or replace the cable if there are any broken pins because this will prevent the signals from reaching the monitor.
2) Test the monitor by plugging it into a different desktop or laptop computer. If you get a picture, the monitor is OK but if you don't get a picture then the monitor may be damaged.
3) Graphics Card: Often this kind of problem can be solved by reseating the graphics card. Make sure the power and the monitor are both unplugged, then open the computer case. Locate the graphics card and remove the retaining screw. Remove the card and then reinsert in making sure the bottom edge of the card is exactly parallel to the plastic edge of the slot on the motherboard. Power up and test it out.
*If the card is built onto the motherboard then you cannot do this.
POWER SWITCH:
IF you press and hold the power switch on the front of the computer for up to 7 seconds, it should power the computer off. If it does not then you may have a more serious problem in the computer.
GOOD LUCK!!
